here are some questions that are not actually frequently asked, but i wanted to answer anyway.

Q: why?

A: i dunno. 🤷

Q: what do you use to draw the pictures?

A: this has changed a bit over the years, and i suspect it will always be a little in flux. the majority of the older pre-2015 pictures were drawn using adobe flash (or i guess adobe animate as it’s called now? i dunno…when i started using it, it was still macromedia flash.) in the flash days, i used some combination of drawing with the mouse or a wacom tablet, depending on my mood.

these days, i’m mostly using affinity designer on an ipad and an apple pencil for my drawing needs.

Q: what’s the deal with the little robot face ai notice on some pictures?

A: when i first started stupidpictures, i didn’t keep any of the source files (i know, i know…). i opened flash, drew a thing, saved the image and that was that. i mean, i’m just doing this as a journal type thing…no need to keep everything archived for posterity, right??

fast forward to present day and it turns out that 300px wide jpegs aren’t super awesome for web content. who knew?

in any case, with the pictures that i have the source files for, i can upscale and/or export more modern image formats no problem. but then i have a bunch of the older stuff that’s still low-res jpegs and that’s just gross. i actually just threw up because the thought of it is so disgusting.

anywayyyy, i decided to try running some of them through an ai-powered image upscale thingy and thought they came out ok enough to use. definitely not perfect, but good enough. certainly better than a tiny jpeg…which you can still see by clicking the little robot face if you’re some sort of perverted jpeg fetishist.

Q: can we have pizza for dinner?

A: yes…always
